Please join the department in welcoming three new members to our community:
Madeleine (Mandy) Cohen, Preceptor in Yiddish (academic year 2017-18). Cohen is our newly appointed Yiddish preceptor, and will teach Yiddish language at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels (YIDDISH AA/AB; BA/BB; CA/CB). Her research focuses on Yiddish literature in the early 20th century with comparative work in German, Polish and Hebrew language literatures.
Nebil A. Husayn, Visiting Assistant Professor of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (spring 2018). Husayn is an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Miami. He will teach "Early and Medieval Islamic History" (ISLAMCIV 135) in spring 2018
Israel Knohl, Weinstock Visiting Professor of Jewish Studies (fall 2017). Knohl is currently the Yehezkel Kaufmann Professor of Bible at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He will teach two courses this fall: JEWISHST 225 "Messianism in Early Judaism and Christianity" (with Professor David Stern); and ANE 130 "The Birth of Biblical Religion".
