Harvard TEI Arabic workshop, April 2-3 (Thursday-Friday) 2026

Join us for a two-day Arabic digital humanities workshop to learn TEI (Textual Encoding Initiative) mark-up of Arabic-script texts for critical digital editions. Hugh Cayless (TEI treasurer, senior programmer Duke University Libraries) and Adam Mestyan (Professor of Middle Eastern Studies, NELC) will teach the sessions. The workshop will feature an evening talk by Sabine Schmidtke (IAS Princeton) about the history of critical editions of Arabic manuscripts.

The workshop will take place on April 2-3 (Thu-Fri) 2026 in the Gibb Room in Widener Library. Students will need to bring their own laptops but will receive a free one-year license for the Oxygen XML editing software.

Lunch will be provided. Space is limited and priority will be given to Harvard students. Please only register if you can commit to the full two-day program.
