Prof. Wheeler M. Thackston will be joining us as part of the Arabic Reading Workshop on Monday, November 13th, 4-6 p.m., in HSM 201. Prof. Thackston will speak about his ongoing and a number of previous projects, followed by Q&A and conversation over delicious pizza and beverages. Prof. Wheeler M. Thackston is a distinguished editor and translator of several literary and historical works, a few of which are Akbarnama, Baburnama, Nasir-i Khusraw’s Book of Travels, The Jahangirnama, and The Gulistan of Sa‘di. He has also written numerous language textbooks amongst which are An Introduction to Koranic and Classical Arabic, An Introduction to Persian and Introduction to Syriac. Prof. Thackston received his A.B. from Princeton University’s Department of Oriental Studies, and his Ph.D. from Harvard University’s Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. He taught Arabic, Persian and other Near Eastern languages and literatures at Harvard University for more than thirty years.
