#  Welcoming new faculty and visitors to NELC for 2017-18! 

 



 Please join the department in welcoming three new members to our community:

 **[Madeleine (Mandy) Cohen, Preceptor in Yiddish](/people/madeleine-cohen)** (academic year 2017-18). Cohen is our newly appointed Yiddish preceptor, and will teach Yiddish language at the beginning, intermediate and advanced levels (YIDDISH AA/AB; BA/BB; CA/CB). Her research focuses on Yiddish literature in the early 20th century with comparative work in German, Polish and Hebrew language literatures.

 **[Nebil A. Husayn, Visiting Assistant Professor of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations](/people/nebil-husayn)** (spring 2018). Husayn is an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Miami. He will teach "Early and Medieval Islamic History" (ISLAMCIV 135) in spring 2018

 **[Israel Knohl, Weinstock Visiting Professor of Jewish Studies](/people/israel-knohl)** (fall 2017). Knohl is currently the Yehezkel Kaufmann Professor of Bible at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He will teach two courses this fall: JEWISHST 225 "Messianism in Early Judaism and Christianity" (with **[Professor David Stern](/people/david-stern)**); and ANE 130 "The Birth of Biblical Religion".
