Lisa Gulesserian teaches Elementary Western Armenian and Armenian Culture courses at NELC. Her research interests include contemporary Armenian American novelists, memory, and literary translation.
She earned her PhD in English from the University of Texas at Austin. Her dissertation—titled “Because if the dead cannot live, neither do we”: Postmemory and Passionate Remembering in Micheline Aharonian Marcom’s Armenian Genocide Trilogy—posits that inherited memories of traumatic pasts must undergo imaginative transformations to be passionately remembered in the present. An amended version of her analysis of Marcom's trilogy will be published in a forthcoming issue of Review of Contemporary Fiction.
