I am currently working on my doctoral dissertation in Hebrew Bible at the University of Basel. My research explores how the last chapters of the Book of Zechariah (Zech 11; 12–14) reinterpret earlier hopes and aims for the community in light of the challenges posed by Hellenistic rule over Judea. These chapters grapple with leadership and social structures, shifting from individual rulers to collective forms of leadership, while frequently redefining the community’s boundaries. My dissertation will analyze these chapters using methods of historical criticism and contextualize these textual transformations within the socio-political and economic landscape of Hellenistic Judea. During my time at Harvard, I will continue this research under the mentorship of Professor Julia Rhyder.
