SUMMARY:Proseminar: Amorite Umma: A New Chapter in the Urban History
DESCRIPTION:
The Iraqi archaeological expedition to Umma (Tell Jokha) from 1999 to 2002 discovered hundreds of cuneiform texts from the time of Sumuel of Larsa, both in the temple of Shara and in the municipal center. With this textual and archaeological data, Umma becomes an exemplary case for studying the political organization in a period of changes and conflicts.

Walther Sallaberger, Professor of Assyriology, Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich

Please note that basic knowledge of Sumerian is recommended for full participation in this proseminar.
