Ancient Near Eastern Studies

I study the Hebrew Bible and history of the ancient Near East. I I focus particularly on questions in which the study of ancient Egypt intersects with the study of the ancient Levant and approach these questions as case studies that can contribute to a more general theory of cultural contact. Since my research focuses on the Hebrew Bible, I concentrate particularly on the period c. 1069 to 332 BCE, which corresponds to the Egyptian Third Intermediate, Late, and Persian Periods. In my work, I devote considerable attention to method, drawing extensively on probability theory to develop techniques that can be applied not just to ancient history and religion, but also to other fields of study in the humanities.
