Sarah Akhtar, AB 2012, was awarded the 2012 Ethnic Studies Thesis Prize for her thesis titled "The Government’s Children: Orphans’ Rights in Morocco and Tunisia"

Bryan Averbuch (Ph.D.’13 in Histories and Cultures of Muslim Societies) accepted a position at the College of Staten Island, City University of New York as an Assistant Professor beginning in August 2013. His position is in pre-modern World History, with a focus on the Indian Ocean trade and the Silk Road.

Debra Caplan (Ph.D. '13) has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Theater at Baruch College, City University of New York, and joined the faculty there in September. She will be primarily teaching courses in theater, but will also be involved with Baruch's Jewish Studies Center as well.

Charles G. Häberl III, (AM 2003 / PhD 2006) was promoted to Associate Professor and awarded tenure by Rutgers University.

Alexander Key (PhD, Arabic and Islamic Studies, 2012) joined the faculty of Stanford University as an Assistant Professor of Arabic and Comparative Literature in August 2012. He also attended (and presented at) the Eleventh Conference of the School of Abbasid Studies at the University of Exeter in the UK, (July 2012).
